鐘楊教授是中國國家教育部長江學者講座教授、上海交通大學緻遠講席教授、上海交通大學國際與公共事務學院院長、上海交通大學民意與輿情研究中心主任、田納西大學政治學終身教授。鐘揚教授的研究領域主要是比較政治學理論、政治文化、政治參與、民意調查、台海關系，等。鐘揚教授發表過兩部英文專著（Local Government and Politics in China: Challenges from Below、Political Culture and Participation in Rural China）和五本合編學術著作，以及四十多篇學術文章，其中三十多篇發表在SSCI國際期刊。他的學術文章曾發表在美國一流政治學SSCI學術期刊上， 其中包括Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Politics，Political Research Quarterly，Asian Survey和Journal of Contemporary China。鐘楊教授同時還擔任Palgrave Macmillan國際出版社New Perspectives on Chinese Politics and Society系列叢書主編；Journal of Contemporary China Studies、Journal of Chinese Political Studies和Journal of Asia-Pacific Studies等國際期刊的編委。
